Just a stone's throw from the centre of Lier, the valley of the Kleine Nete is a beautiful expanse of nature.
The soil gradually changes from clay to sand, and from wet to dry. As a result, there is a wide variety of plants within a relatively short distance, including daisies, hogweed, cow parsley and comfrey. Reed canary grass, giant balsam, marsh maple, yellow iris and cattail grow at the water's edge.
The Kleine Nete rises on the border of the provinces of Antwerp and Limburg. It continues to flow through the Kempen to Lier where it merges with the Grote Nete to form the Beneden-Nete. The meandering, primeval Kempen river partly forms the landscape of flowery meadows, marshes and mysterious forests. The valley is interspersed with various tributaries.
In this unique landscape, you can enjoy walking, cycling, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and boat tours.
You can enjoy wonderful natural beauty along the meandering Grote en Kleine Nete. You will discover beautiful castle domains, old farms and much more.
