The beguinage and the belfry are two famous landmarks. At the end of the 20th century they were added to the prestigious list of UNESCO World heritage sites.
Lier born graffiti writer Joachim is the founder of the project Lier UP aiming to give the town an urban upgrade. In collaboration with fellow graffiti artists he paints large murals depicting scenes inspired by local culture.
The Town Hall is adjacent to the Belfry. The current building was built in 1740 and replaced the former cloth halls. The interior is opulent and sumptuous with an imposing spiral staircase and striking ceiling paintings in the council chambers where nowadays the tourist office Visit Lier is housed. Come in and have a look.
