Discover the lace, embroidery and pearlwork of Lier in a working open studio in the basement of a monumental mansion from 1850.
Felix Van Loock and Hilde Duys gladly demonstrate their craftsmanship.
Immerse yourself in the authentic work of the Cornely embroidery machines, take a look at the large collection of handbags with pearls and sequins and admire the veil: a unique composition of ivy, fruit and Lier lace motifs with beautiful pearls on very fine tulle.
Lier lace is unique, as it is hand-embroidered on machine woven tulle and not bobbin lace. The city was also famous for pearl embroidery.
You can visit lace workshops in and around the beguinage.
The interactive and participative Stadsmuseum presents the stories of Lier and the people of Lier. Discover the different themes and activities, also for children.
