In the heart of Lier you will find Oscar's House, the former home of artist Oscar van Rompay (1899-1997).
He studied at the academy in Antwerp and then went on to perfect his skills in Paris. Oscar painted nudes, still lifes, landscapes, flowers, cityscapes, circus life and portraits. He left behind more than 500 paintings and more than 1000 drawings.
The artist donated a large part of his fortune to the non-profit organisation Oscar van Rompay, with the aim of restoring his home and preserving and exhibiting his work. The house was built in the first half of the 19th century in Neoclassical style.
Its beautiful large city garden is striking, being partly ornamental, partly fruit and vegetable garden.
