The Lier Vlaaike is a spicy pastry made with candy syrup and four spices.
It goes back more than 300 years and is one of the oldest regional pastries from the province of Antwerp. It is a local speciality with huge regional appeal.
In 1999 the Order of Lier Vlaaike was founded, to oversee the quality of the product.
The Lier bakers, the members of the Order, are proud of the Flemish recognition as a regional product in 2007 and the European recognition in 2013.
