The 'Struifvogel' game is a typical Flemish sport.
It also used to be played in southern Holland, Germany and Austria. It was popular for a long time in Leuven but there is only one club remaining: in Lier.
A 'struifvogel' is a hardwood bird, beautifully carved and painted, that is suspended on a cable. A metal dart is inserted in its beak.
The player pulls the bird back and aims at the target, a wooden board ±10 m away. The dart is left then sticking in the board and the bird is pulled back for the next go.
